
Unstuck: A Ritual for Blocked Energy
I have been stuck for a while. I feel an unexplained energy that holds me back when I have so much I need to do. This week, I kept putting it on my To Do list to look up a banishing spell for stuck energy, but there is something about stuck energy that wants to stay put and prevent banishment.
There are a lot of amazing websites and blogs out there and I did actually do the search, but an interesting thing happened to my attention as I skimmed each page: I was distracted and the stuck energy was taking a foothold.
Step 1: Meditate
Today, before I invited in the stuck energy, I jumped out of bed and meditated over my morning cup of coffee. This, I realized, was Step 1. Meditate. Become aware of the blockage. Do chakra meditation or any kind of meditation where you observe energy. Watch the ebb and flow in your body and in your home as you breathe in and out. There are plenty of meditations available on YouTube and I invite you to try one!
Step 2: Clean Physical Space
As I meditated, my attention kept going to the dishes. The sink was full as per usual. In Honoring Your Ancestors: A Guide to Ancestral Veneration, Mallorie Vaudoise talks about how this is an unwitting invitation to wayward spirits to come feast in your home and can contribute to stuck energy. Step 2: Clean. Clean your physical space and your person. Do dishes, take care of some laundry that is piling up, make your bed, take a shower, wash your hands, straighten the living room, take a moment to give your physical space some love.
Step 3: Clean Spiritual Space
As I moved through the house cleaning and straightening, I started giving thanks. I thanked our pillows for bringing my husband and me comfort as we rested our bodies. I thanked our blankets for keeping us warm. I thanked the windows as I cracked them open for protecting us from the cold. I smudged each room offering my gratitude. I welcomed in the fresh cool air as I blessed the stale energy on its way out the window. Deep breath in, almost there!
Step 4: Invite the Positive Energy
We theoretically could stop at the cleansing stage, but now we need to set intentions. We've cleared space for something and we need to specify what it is. Play your favorite music that lifts your spirits and motivates you. Light some incense or spray room freshener that wakes you up. Put on your favorite outfit or something that feels good to be in. Eat a healthy vegan meal that makes you feel good. I highly recommend avoiding junk food and animal products at this critical stage. Consuming products that are sourced in fear or laziness will invite back the stale energy that we're working so hard to banish. The goal is to invigorate your senses and find your happy place while also harming none.
Step 5: Move!
Yes, I thought we were done as well, but we're talking about banishing stuck energy. This is the coup d'etat. Do some yoga, dance, walk, run. Reconnect with your body and get your energy flowing. Find that zone in movement, the flow zone, where the world melts away with every breath and it's just you and the universe. Feel your elevated heart rate and give thanks for where you are in this moment.
